綱：細胞体は主に monokinetidsで、 細胞の前後端に収束する transverse ribbonがある。 kinetodesmal fibril は横方向に伸びるが，隣接するfibrilとは重ならない。 oral cilia は通常単純。 （「An Illustrated Guide to the Protozoa」より）

毒胞亜綱 　Haptoria	Oral toxicystsをもつ （oral dikinetidsの transverse microtubulesの間にある）。 oral ciliaは oral cavityにはなく，口部域の淵にある。 alveoliはあまり発達していない。 tela corticalis をもつものが多い。 Rhabdosをもつ。
毛口亜綱 　Trichostomatia	Oral toxicystsはない。 繊毛は細胞全体に一様にあるか、あるいは、著しく減少して前端部や後端部で房状に集まっている。 細胞口は、細胞前端部あるいはその近傍にあり、繊毛が密集している。 多くは脊椎動物に内部寄生する。
