綱：細胞体は主に monokinetidsで、細胞の前後端に収束する transverse ribbonがある。 kinetodesmal fibrilは横方向に伸びるが，隣接するfibrilとは重ならない。 oral cilia は通常単純。
亜綱：Oral toxicystsをもつ（ oral dikinetidsの transverse microtubulesの間にある）。 oral ciliaは oral cavityにはなく、口部域の淵にある。 alveoliはあまり発達していない。tela corticalis をもつものが多い。 Rhabdosをもつ。
目/科：独特な細胞口をもつ。oral dikinetidsは長く伸びた先端部 （proboscis；象の鼻）に沿って並ぶ。 毒胞はその proboscis の腹側にある。

属：proboscisは1つ。 proboscisに沿って body kinetiesは斜めに並ぶ。 細胞は卵形ないし円形。後端部は球形。
Dileptusに似ているが， proboscisは短く，遊泳中 Dileptus のように活発には動かない。

T. ovum	細胞は球形ないし楕円形。長さは200-400μｍ。 先端部が指状（ないしは鼻状）に突出する（細胞長の1/4〜1/2）。 右側が平らで縦溝がある。左側には窪みがある。 収縮胞がたくさんある。大核は短いソーセージ状（くびれている場合もある）。 細胞内（endoplasm）には cytoplasmic skein or bandsがみられる。 褐色の顆粒を含む。淡水性。(Kudo, 1966)
