綱：葉状仮足をつくる。軸糸はない。
亜綱：殻をつくらない。狭義のアメーバ類。
目：多くは単核。ミトコンドリアがある。 鞭毛をもたない。
　　核分裂は mesomitotic。有性生殖は知られていない。
亜目：移動時の細胞は円筒状で，分岐する種としない種がいる。 仮足は顆粒を含み，先端部には透明冠がみられる。 通常，核は１個だが，まれに多核のものもいる。核分裂は mesomitotic。 from 「An Illustrated Guide to the Protozoa」

科：仮足は分岐し，顆粒を含む。 ただし，その先端部は透明で半球状。

オオアメーバ属 　Amoeba	仮足にridgeあり。単一核。
カオス属 　Chaos	仮足にridgeあり。多核（数百または1000以上）。
メタカオス属 　Metachaos	仮足にridgeなし。核は円盤状。
スティガメーバ属 　Stygamoeba	仮足にridgeなし。核は球形ないし卵形。
トリカメーバ属 　Trichamoeba	仮足にridgeなし。核は球形（spherical）。endosomeなし。
ハイドラメーバ属 　Hydramoeba	仮足にridgeなし。核は球形（spherical）。 endosomeあり。
ポリカオス属 　Polychaos	仮足がpolypodalになる時，形がくずれる。核は卵形。いくつかの種は endosomeがある。
シュードテカメーバ属 　Pseudothecamoeba	細胞質には液胞が非常にたくさんある。 背中側にはしわがある。 先端部には常に透明冠がある。後端部は狭まる。
