綱：葉状仮足をつくる。軸糸はない。
亜綱：殻をつくらない。狭義のアメーバ類。
目：多くは単核。ミトコンドリアがある。 鞭毛をもたない。
　　核分裂は mesomitotic。有性生殖は知られていない。
亜目：移動時の細胞は円筒状で，分岐する種としない種がいる。 仮足は顆粒を含み，先端部には透明冠がみられる。 通常，核は１個だが，まれに多核のものもいる。核分裂は mesomitotic。

科：仮足は分岐し，顆粒を含む。 ただし，その先端部は透明で半球状。 from 「An Illustrated Guide to the Protozoa」

属：仮足にridgeなし。核は円盤状。

M. diminutivum	静止して球形の時, 径 10-12 μm; 移動時の長さ 15-20 μm, 幅 3-5 μm; 仮足の先端部がややふくらむ; ウロイドはときおりできる; 円盤状の核が１個; 収縮胞は通常1個だが2の時もある, 径 2-3 μm (Illustrated Guide, 1985).
