綱：葉状仮足をつくる。軸糸はない。
亜綱：殻をつくらない。狭義のアメーバ類。
目：多くは単核。ミトコンドリアがある。 鞭毛をもたない。
　　核分裂は mesomitotic。有性生殖は知られていない。
亜目：移動時の細胞は円筒状で，分岐する種としない種がいる。 仮足は顆粒を含み，先端部には透明冠がみられる。 通常，核は１個だが，まれに多核のものもいる。核分裂は mesomitotic。

科：仮足は分岐し，顆粒を含む。 ただし，その先端部は透明で半球状。 from 「An Illustrated Guide to the Protozoa」

属：仮足がpolypodalになる時，形がくずれる。核は卵形。いくつかの種はendosomeがある。

P. dubium	仮足が複数の時，100-400μｍ，細胞質は透明。核は楕円形（37-40μｍ×30-32μｍ） 仮足の平均数は12 (How to know the protozoa, 1979)。

P. timidum	掌（てのひら）状に仮足を出した時は45-60μｍ，仮足が１本の時の長さは80-100μｍ。 核の径6.5-7μｍ(Page, 1976)。
