綱：細胞体は主に monokinetidsで、細胞の前後端に収束する transverse ribbonがある。 kinetodesmal fibrilは横方向に伸びるが，隣接するfibrilとは重ならない。 oral cilia は通常単純。
亜綱：Oral toxicystsをもつ（ oral dikinetidsの transverse microtubulesの間にある）。 oral ciliaは oral cavityにはなく、口部域の淵にある。 alveoliはあまり発達していない。tela corticalis をもつものが多い。 Rhabdosをもつ。　
目：微小管でもりあがった oral domeをもつ。 その内部に毒胞がある。
科：先端部の口部域は尖っているか，ドーム状にもりあがる。細胞体はフラスコ型で細長い。 前端部はバルブ状で伸縮する。apical bulbはない。

属： 細胞は細長く扁平，柔軟。前方は首状で細くなる。先端部はドーム状。細胞咽頭も狭く，トリコシストがある。 大核は２個。収縮胞は後端部にある。
