綱：多くは大形の細胞で、収縮性に富むものが多い。なかには細胞質内に色素を含むものがいる。 独特の周口小膜域 （adoral zone of membranelle, AZM）をもつが、 繊毛は細胞全体に一様にある。 大核は卵円形か数珠状のものが多い。寄生性・自由生活両方のタイプがある。

亜綱：細胞は卵円形（conical＝マツの実）もしくは釣鐘形（bell-shaped）。 細胞体の繊毛はあまりない。 口部繊毛は polykinetidsで、 口部周辺に完全な円形状に配列している。 これらは移動や捕食用に利用される。 多くはプランクトンとして生活している。 （「An Illustrated Guide to the Protozoa」より）
細胞口は大形。 ペリクルは肥厚し、多くの種で細胞膜の外側に周皮（perilemma）がある。 DNA合成期、大核には再構成帯（reorganization band）が出現する。 細胞肛門がない。 外洋性。 （「原生動物図鑑」より）

チンチニディウム科 　Tintinnidiidae	ロリカは柔らかく管状。襟はない。
チンチニディウム属 　Tintinnidium	科と同じ。
コドネラ科 　Codonellidae	ロリカはフラスコないしボール状。不透明な襟がある。
Tintinnopsis属	周囲に鉱物粒子を付着させている。襟はわずかにくびれている。
コドネラ属 　Codonella	Coccolithophora（ ハプト植物） の鱗片（test）を付着させている。 襟は明瞭にくびれる。襟はわずかにひだがつくか，リング状の隆起線がある。
Codonaria属	Coccolithophora（ ハプト植物） の鱗片（test）を付着させている。 襟は明瞭にくびれる。襟は明瞭な内側の suboral coneを取り巻く。
