綱/亜綱：多くは大形の細胞で、収縮性に富むものが多い。なかには細胞質内に色素を含むものがいる。 独特の周口小膜域 （adoral zone of membranelle, AZM）をもつが、 繊毛は細胞全体に一様にある。 大核は卵円形か数珠状のものが多い。寄生性・自由生活両方のタイプがある。
Somatic kinetidsは mono- or dikinetidsで， つぶれた形の細胞の両サイドに互いに近接して並んでいる。 口部左側のpolykinetidsは先端部で丸く並ばない。 例外は StentorとLicnophora。 細胞はとがった形をしている。
Dikinetids のうち通常は前方のものだけから 繊毛が発達する。 口部左側の polykinetids はよく発達し，移動や捕食のために利用される。 細胞体の繊毛（body cilia）は口部域まで侵入する。 suture がない。
Alveolar membrane system はあまり発達していない。 多くの種は収縮性がある。 cytopyge がある。 収縮胞は、collecting canals と大きな collecting vacuole からなる。
細胞は左右方向につぶれていない（例外：Blepharismidae）。 共生するものはまれ。
一部は色素を含む。

海洋性。 ロリカをもち植物や無脊椎動物に付着。
Oral polykinetidsは大きく発達して羽状。細胞全体に繊毛がある。

コリフォリナ科 　Folliculinidae	亜目と同じ。
Magnifolliculina属	大核は１個で卵形。 ロリカは底に平行に形成される。
フォリクリナ属 　Folliculina	大核は１個で卵形。 ロリカは途中から45度上に折れ曲がる。 chamberはない。
Parafolliculina属	大核は１個で卵形。 ロリカには出口と奥のchamberの間にリング状にふくらんだ部分がある。
Metafolliculina属	大核は数珠状。 ロリカは途中から90度上に折れ曲がる。 細胞の「首」の部分にはラセン状構造がある。
Pebrilla属	大核は数珠状。 ロリカには横方向に溝があり２つの chamberに分かれる。
