綱：葉状仮足をつくる。軸糸はない。一時期鞭毛をもつものもあるが、子実体はつくらない。
亜綱：細胞外に厚く丈夫な殻（shell, test, tectum）もしくは石英や 珪藻の殻などの付着物をまぜた 複合的な膜を形成する。葉状仮足をもち、殻と内部の細胞膜との間には隙間がある。 糸状仮足とまぎらわしい仮足をもつものも多い。
目：殻の開口は１個のみ。
亜目：はキチン質の場合とそうでない場合がある。硬い。plate, scale, or siliceous granulesが表面に付着。 仮足は指状（digitate）。
科：Pseudostome は丸い。縁が波打っている場合もある。
Pseudostome は細胞の腹側にあり，やや窪んだ位置にある。

属： Pseudostome は腹側にあるが，中心からずれている。

種：殻の直径は138〜200μｍ。高さは48〜60μｍ。 殻は黄色。左右相称。丸形。前方がより平ら。 腹側は平ら。両脇と後方にいくつかの棘がある。
Pseudostomeは腹側前方にあり丸みがある。直径30〜60μｍ。
仮足は葉状。Endoplasmには顆粒がみられる。核は球形で径25μｍ。淡水性。
