綱：細胞外に厚く丈夫な殻（shell, test, tectum）もしくは石英や 珪藻の殻などの付着物をまぜた 複合的な膜を形成する。葉状仮足をもち、殻と内部の細胞膜との間には隙間がある。 糸状仮足とまぎらわしい仮足をもつものも多い。

目：殻の開口は１個のみ。
亜目：殻はキチン質の場合とそうでない場合がある。硬い。plate, scale, or siliceous granulesが表面に付着。 仮足は指状（digitate）。

科：Pseudostome は丸い。縁が波打っている場合もある。
Pseudostome は細胞の腹側にあり，やや窪んだ位置にある。

トゲフセツボカムリ属	Pseudostome は腹側にあるが，中心からずれている。
Cyclopyxis属	Pseudostome は窪んだ腹側の中心にある。 Pseudostomeの輪郭：丸。
Distomatopyxis属	Pseudostome は窪んだ腹側の中心にある。 Pseudostomeの輪郭：２つの半円に分割されている。
