綱：葉状仮足をつくる。軸糸はない。一時期鞭毛をもつものもあるが、子実体はつくらない。
亜綱：細胞外に厚く丈夫な殻（shell, test, tectum）もしくは石英や 珪藻の殻などの付着物をまぜた 複合的な膜を形成する。葉状仮足をもち、殻と内部の細胞膜との間には隙間がある。 糸状仮足とまぎらわしい仮足をもつものも多い。
目：殻の開口は１個のみ。
亜目：殻はキチン質。pliable or 硬い。scale or palteはない。固形物に付着。仮足は指状（digitate）。

科：Testは硬く，キチン質。often areolar, smooth。 pseudostomeは腹側にあり明瞭。丸い。

ナベカムリ属 （Arcella）	Testの形は様々。キチン質。二核（binucleate）。
	Group Vulgaroides： Testは半球状。高さは最大直径の1/2〜4/5。eternal shelf or rimがない。
	Group Arenoides： Testは半球状。eternal shelf or rimがある。
	Group Discoides： Testは平ら。最大直径の1/2。
	Group Altoides： Testの高さは最大直径よりも長い。
Pyxidicula属 （Pyxidicula）	Test はカップ状。pseudostomeは testと同じくらい広い。縁はわずかに内側へ曲がる。
Antarcella属 （Antarcella）	Testは半球状。腹側に曲がっている。invaginated pseudostome。
