ペルキンスス綱　Perkinsasida

コノイドは不完全な円錐しか形成しない。遊走子は鞭毛をもつ。有性世代をもたない。 中間宿主をとらない１宿主性（homoxenous）である。（「原生動物図鑑」）

Perkinsus marinumは、当初Dermocystidium marinumとして菌類の仲間に入れられていた が、紆余曲折を経て Perkins (1976)が apical complex様の構造があるのを根拠にApicomplexaの仲間に変更した。
Levine et al. (1980)はこれを支持したが、Vivier (1982)は、むしろ渦鞭毛藻（虫）類に近いことを指摘した。その後 の分子系統学のデータは（Goggin & Barker 1993, Fong et al. 1993, Siddall et al. 1995, Flores et al. 1996） Vivierの説を支持している。

ということで、ペルキンススは、現在は渦鞭毛藻類 の仲間か、その近縁とした方がいいのかもしれない。
