綱：葉状仮足をつくる。軸糸はない。一時期鞭毛をもつものもあるが、子実体はつくらない。
亜綱：細胞外に厚く丈夫な殻（shell, test, tectum）もしくは石英や 珪藻の殻などの付着物をまぜた 複合的な膜を形成する。葉状仮足をもち、殻と内部の細胞膜との間には隙間がある。 糸状仮足とまぎらわしい仮足をもつものも多い。
目：殻の開口は１個のみ。
亜目：殻はキチン質の場合とそうでない場合がある。硬い。plate, scale, or siliceous granulesが表面に付着。 仮足は指状（digitate）。
科：Pseudostome は丸い。縁が波打っている場合もある。
Pseudostome は先端部にある。

属： Pseudostomeには波打った襟（lobed collar）がない。殻の横断面は球形か卵形。 殻は折れ曲がるか，ねじれている。その片側の端に pseudostomeがある。

Group Ovaloides: 殻は卵形に近く，pseudostomeが首状に突き出していない。
L. mimetica	長さ 370-460 μm; 幅 280-350 μm; 奥行 175-220 μm 殻の側面は卵形; 首部は折れ曲がり殻本体に接着する; キチン質で透明〜褐色; 珪素質の粒子が付着;
Group Spiraloides: 殻はややねじれている。pseudostomeが首状に突き出している。
L. spiralis	長さ 95-190 μm; 幅 75-150 μm; 奥行 50-100 μm 殻はフラスコ形; 首部が殻本体から離れる; 珪素質の粒子が付着する; pseudostomeは円形;
Group Gibbosoides: 殻はややねじれている。首状の突き出し部にくびれがある。
L. gibbosa	長さ 120-150 μm; 幅 100-140 μm 殻の首部分がくびれる; pseudostomeは円形;
