綱：細胞の全周囲に放射状に 有軸仮足をだす。 この仮足は顆粒を含み、しばしば吻合する。 有軸仮足以外に、糸状仮足や一時的に葉状仮足を形成するものもいる。 突出体（放出体, extrusome）として， キネトシスト（kinetocyst, conicyst） をもつ。大部分は淡水性。

目：軸足の形成部位は核膜ないしはその周辺部にある。 MTOCは核膜ないし centroplastに dense plaquesを形成する。各軸足には３本ないしそれ以上の微小管がある。
１〜４本の鞭毛をもって遊泳する時期もある。細胞は裸。

属：目と同じ

C. infusionum 細胞体の直径は〜10-20μｍ。軸足は先端が尖り，長さは45-50μｍ。20-50本が放射状に伸びる。 軸足には顆粒がみられる。核は中央にあり直径4-8μｍ，内部に endosomeあり。 収縮胞は細胞周辺部にあり直径は〜15μｍ。 鞭毛をもつ時期の細胞は紡錘形で先端がやや幅広い。鞭毛は１本で，長さは22-25μｍ。
