綱： monokinetids が普通。各々には、a lateral kinetodesmal fibril, a reduced ( or absent ) transverse microtubular ribbon, そして postciliary ribbonが付属する。口部には放射状に 配列した microtubular ribbons（phyllae）がある。
亜綱：栄養体（trophont）は自由遊泳。 繊毛は主に腹側にある。口部域にはphyllae と棒状の nematodesmataがある。 細胞咽頭 にacmocystsと呼ばれる 突出体（extrusomes）をもつものがいる。

目：栄養体はごくわずかしか繊毛がない（もしくはまったくない）。 腹側は裸。口部は吸管状。acmocystsという突出体（extrusomes） をもつ。ほとんどは二枚貝に寄生する。

従来は、

　全毛亜綱　Holotrichia
　　　触毛目　Thigmotrichida

とされていた。
