細胞は３部分からなる。 1）口部域（oral）； peristome は明瞭で、 周囲に dikinetid fileと oral polykinetidがある。 polykinetidは 細胞口（cytostome） があるoral cavity（infundibulum）から出ている。 2）aboral；suction-disc （scopula） を形成する。 kinetosomes、 もしくは、固着性の種では stalkを分泌する。 3）telotroch band；mobile speciesでは常に繊毛があるが、 固着性の種ではmobileな時期にのみある。
口部域は伸縮することもできる。いくつかの種では ロリカを形成する。
口部の窪みの奥から繊毛が伸びる。 peristomal fieldに並ぶ。 それ以外には細胞体に繊毛はない。 一部，aboral girdleとして繊毛があるものがいる。

trophontが遊泳する種のグループ。 scopula (holdfast-disc)には リング状に繊毛が配列。trochal bandには常に繊毛がある。 多くは他の生物に寄生（共生）する。

Denticlesは単純でスムーズ。口部の直径とaboral diam.がほぼ同じ。
大核は bulbousでＨ形。cortical ringを持つ。
