亜綱：細胞全体に繊毛がある。body ciliaは monokinetids or dikinetidsのいずれか。 口部繊毛は、右側は３つに分割された dikinetids、そして、左側は３つの polykinetids （membranelles）がある。caudal ciliaがあるのが普通。 通常，右側に paroral dikinetidが，左側に oral polykinetidsが 1-3列ある。
目：preoral sutureがあるが、postoral sutureはない。 postoral kinetiesはある。生活環が多型的。 餌の量によってmicrostomeと macrostome の２つの状態をとる。 多くは淡水性。
右側のoral dikinetidは b segmentのみ。 細胞体の繊毛は主に monokinetids，細胞先端部のみが dikinetids。 stomatogenesisは，通常，postoral kinetyの隣から始まる。科：Paroral dikinetid全体に繊毛がある。 oral polykinetidsは ３列。 各々は等間隔か，長さが同じ。
属：Oral polykinetids 1 と 2 は sigmoid形。
細胞は円筒形。繊毛は全体に均一にある。約70の繊毛列をもつ。 細胞口は三角形で，細胞先端から1/4細胞長の部分にある。その右側に１つのparoral undulating membraneと ３つのadoral membranesがある。 収縮胞は細胞の中央部にあり，その出口となる孔の部分は窪みの中にある。 大核はリボン形。小核は5〜6個。淡水性。
D. rhabdoides Fauré-Fremiet & Mugard 細胞は円筒形，長さは150-180 μm, 幅は40-45 μm。 先端部へいくほど細くなり，ゆるやかに曲がる。後端部は丸い。 Chironomusの幼虫の消化管内にいる (Kudo, 1966)。 形はゾウリムシに似るが遊泳速度がより速く，遊泳パターンも異なる。 ゾウリムシはラセン形だが，本種は直線的（月井）。
