綱：monokinetids が普通。各々には、a lateral kinetodesmal fibril, a reduced ( or absent ) transverse microtubular ribbon, そして postciliary ribbonが付属する。口部には放射状に 配列した microtubular ribbons（phyllae）がある。

亜綱：栄養体（trophont）は自由遊泳。 繊毛は主に腹側にある。口部域にはphyllae と棒状の nematodesmataがある。
細胞咽頭 にacmocystsと呼ばれる 突出体（extrusomes）をもつものがいる。
目：亜綱と同じ。
亜目：口部繊毛はいくつかの peri-, circum-, or preoral kineties。 大核は球状ないし卵状。 heteromerous。 上下方向に平ら。 thigmotacticに腹側の繊毛で物に付着する。 ただし，特別な接着器官はない。
科：やわらかい podite （stylusともいう）で付着する。 腹側左の body kineties は preoral & midventral postoral fieldsで途切れている。

属： 細胞は卵形。腹側は平らで，背中側はドーム状に盛り上がる。そこに縦方向に稜がある。 大きな podite（または stylusともいう）と呼ばれる筆状突起がある。poditeには分泌管も附随する。 繊毛は腹側のみにある。大核は中央，収縮胞は２個。
