外部形態
細胞は楕円形で長径は 0.3 mm以上（180〜310μｍ，400μｍ以上のものも）。 ゾウリムシ（P. caudatum）より若干大きい程度。 名前のとおり小核が複数あるのが特徴。小さいため見付けにくい！？。 中ほどに細胞口があり、それに向かって先端部からゆるくラセン状の溝がある。 このため、細胞全体にある繊毛の運動によって生ずる遊泳パターンもゆるいラセン形を描く。
