1. 形態
外部形態
細胞は楕円形で長径はおよそ 0.2 mm （160μｍ前後）。 P. aurelia に似るがやや大きい。 中ほどに細胞口があり、それに向かって先端部からゆるくラセン状の 溝がある。このため、細胞全体にある繊毛の運動によって生ずる遊泳パターンもゆるいラセン形を描く。

内部形態
file:///MacHD-2/WWW/PDB/PCD2836/C/82.jpg 小核はサイズが4.7〜7μｍ（平均5.75μｍ）でP. aureliaのそれ（〜3μｍ）よりもかなり大きい。 vesicular typeで通常２個。
収縮胞も２個。長いradial canal をもつ。
