繊毛は細胞表面に一様にある。 細胞口は細胞前半部の腹側にある。
細胞は腎臓形のものが多い。また、よじれている場合もあり、そのために分裂時の形態形成が複雑になっている。
シストを形成し、増殖シストの中で細胞分裂をする。多くの種が自由生活をする。シスト形成をするため、土壌中に 発見される例も多い。
口部にはほぼ同じ長さの polykinetidsが２列ある。

細胞体はソラマメ形あるいは腎臓形。体の右側は大きく曲がる。

科：自由遊泳。細胞分裂の際にシストを形成し，その中で分裂する。
属：左側のoral polykinetisは開口部のperimeterまで伸びる。oral cavityは管状ではない。
