綱：葉状仮足をつくる。軸糸はない。一時期鞭毛をもつものもあるが、子実体はつくらない。
亜綱：細胞外に厚く丈夫な殻（shell, test, tectum）もしくは石英や 珪藻の殻などの付着物をまぜた 複合的な膜を形成する。葉状仮足をもち、殻と内部の細胞膜との間には隙間がある。 糸状仮足とまぎらわしい仮足をもつものも多い。
目：殻の開口は１個のみ。
亜目：はキチン質の場合とそうでない場合がある。硬い。plate, scale, or siliceous granulesが表面に付着。 仮足は指状（digitate）。
科：Pseudostome は丸い。縁が波打っている場合もある。
Pseudostome は細胞の腹側にあり，やや窪んだ位置にある。

属： Pseudostome は腹側にあるが，中心からずれている。

C. aculeata	殻の直径は138〜200μｍ。高さは48〜60μｍ。 殻は黄色。左右相称。丸形。前方がより平ら。 腹側は平ら。両脇と後方にいくつかの棘がある。 Pseudostomeは腹側前方にあり丸みがある。直径30〜60μｍ。 仮足は葉状。Endoplasmには顆粒がみられる。核は球形で径25μｍ。淡水性。
C. aerophila	殻は卵形で前方にある pseudstome側が平らにつぶれている。 長径53〜85μｍ，短径42〜66μｍ。 高さは28〜45μｍ。 pseudstomeは長径18〜28μｍ，短径10〜15μｍ。
C. constricta	殻は pouch 形。後方は丸いが，pseudostomeのある前方は尖っている。 殻の長径120〜150μｍ，短径75〜100μｍ。 高さは60〜75μｍ。 pseudstomeは長径25〜30μｍ，短径15〜18μｍ。 淡水性。
