綱：葉状仮足をつくる。軸糸はない。
亜綱：殻をつくらない。狭義のアメーバ類。
目： 多くは単核。ミトコンドリアがある。 鞭毛をもたない。 核分裂は mesomitotic。有性生殖は知られていない。
亜目： 細胞は扁平で幅広い，もしくは円盤状。周囲に透明帯がある。表層に目だった特徴はない。 locomotion of some gently eruptive（突発的に先端部ができる），核分裂は mesomitotic。

科： 移動時は扇形。 顆粒は細胞の後部に集まる。 前部の透明域から突起を出すものもいる。 from 「An Illustrated Guide to the Protozoa」

属： 透明な先端部からでる亜仮足（subpseudopodia）はわずか。 透明な先端部は細胞の縁から突発的（eruptively）に形成される。 それに伴い細胞は変形する。 (Illustrated Guide, 1985)
細胞は小さく頻繁に形が変わる（sometimes spatulate or flabellate）。 透明域の縁は不定形で，しばしば深い切れ込みができる。 (Page, 1976)
