亜目： 細胞は三角形に近い。仮足は突起状で透明。その先端部は丸みを帯びている。移動時の hyaline lobeは分岐しない。 核分裂は通常 mesomitotic。
科： 細胞は三角形ないしヘラ状。先端部の丸い細い仮足の長さはほぼ一定。paranuclear body がない。淡水と海水に棲息。

属： 移動時の仮足は先端部の透明な縁からできる。 仮足基部の巾は広い。

亜仮足（sub-pseudopodia）はbroadly based mammilliform or nearly hemisperical pyramids。
floating formsは長い尖った仮足を出さない。最大長さは通常125μｍ以上。

M. augusta 長さは200μｍ以上。仮足につながった表面には縁ができる。 長さ 250-350μｍ。 M. godesae 長さは200μｍ以上。仮足につながった表面には縁ができる。 長さ 200-250μｍ。 M. leidyi 長さは200μｍ以下。表面に縁はできない。 長さ 100-200μｍ。L/B値は3。 M. hohuensis 長さは200μｍ以下。表面に縁はできない。 長さ 80-160μｍ。L/B値は8。
