綱：細胞の全周囲に放射状に 有軸仮足をだす。 この仮足は顆粒を含み、しばしば吻合する。 有軸仮足以外に、糸状仮足や一時的に葉状仮足を形成するものもいる。 突出体（放出体, extrusome）として， キネトシスト（kinetocyst, conicyst） をもつ。大部分は淡水性。

目：軸足の形成部位（MTOC= microtubule organizing center; axoplast）は細胞の中心にある。 柄をもつものもいる。細胞体の表面は珪質ないし有機質の 棘（ないし突起；Acanthocystisなど） or scales（Raphidiophrysなど）で被われている。

属：柄はない。自由遊泳。skeletonがある。

A. aculeata ***** A. longiseta 細胞は丸く，径35-60μｍ。外質（ectoplasm）は透明だが，周囲に灰色の顆粒（径1-3μｍ）。 内質（endoplasm）は明瞭。核は球形ないし卵形。径８μｍ。endosome（〜6μｍ）あり。 細胞は軸足の他に，長い珪質の棘（30μｍ程）で被われている。淡水性。 A. spinifera ***** A. turfacea *****
