亜綱：繊毛が集まった棘毛（cirri）が細胞表面全体にある。上下に押しつぶされた形をしている。 口部繊毛の左側は、polykinetidsによる collar ないしは lapel を形成する。各々は kinetosomeが 2 or 2.5 列 配列する。口部の右側の繊毛の形態は様々で１〜数個の paroral kinetiesからなる。

亜目：腹側前方の棘毛は1本ないし多数の短い fileを形成する。
各fileの長さはバラバラで，まっすぐ（ジグザグ状ではない）。
migratory cirriはない。

科：2 marigial & 1 frontventral cirral files。filesはまっすぐか，斜め。腹側のみ。 前方棘毛（frontal cirri）は少なく，腹側前方の縁に沿って曲がらない。 1つ以上の frontventral fileは exntends past middle of body.

属： 細胞は細長く柔らかい，移動時にはしばしばねじれることがある。 腹部の棘毛列は３本（２本がmarginal cirriで１本がventral cirri。 transverse cirriが長く細胞後端部を越えて伸びる (Carey, 1992より)。

A. thiophaga	細胞は細長く 100 μmほど; AZMは細胞長の約 1/3; transverse cirri は後端部から飛び出る; 前部棘毛は 5 本; 大核は２個; 側方の stiff cirri はない (?) (Carey, 1992).
