1. 形態
外部形態
細胞は楕円形で長径はおよそ 0.2 mm （85〜150μｍ）。中ほどに細胞口があり、それに向かって先端部からゆるくラセン状の 溝がある。このため、細胞全体にある繊毛の運動によって生ずる遊泳パターンもゆるいラセン形を描く。
細胞質内にクロレラを共生させているのが特徴。ただし、クロレラを除去しても生育できる。
