２本の不等長の鞭毛をもつ ameboflagellates。管状のクリステをもつミトコンドリアを数個もつ。
Cercomonasの大きさは10〜15 μｍで、細胞先端部から２本の鞭毛がでる。 細胞は梨形、ないしシリンダ状だが、細胞後端部はアメーバ状態。先端部の鞭毛基部付近に ある細胞膜に結合した構造があり、これが核をキャップ状に包んでいる。 核の後端部に収縮胞がある。
当初はボド類に属していたが（Hollande 1952）、Vickerman（1976）は、キネトプラスト がないこと、および、鞭毛の基部が副基体に接していることから独立させた。
淡水性ないしは coprozoicで、シストを形成するものもいる。

ケルコモナス属 　Cercomonas	細胞は小さい（10-15μｍ）。２本の鞭毛が細胞先端部からでる。 細胞は梨形，ないし円筒形だが，後半部はアメーバ状。
