綱：細い仮足内を顆粒が移動する。仮足は途中で枝分かれしたり，他とつながって網目状となる （一部には網目状にならないものもいる）。
目：殻（test or shell）を持たない。
科：細胞体は変形が著しい。

属：仮足は分枝し，かつ融合もする。大きい（100μｍ以上）。

細胞体を人為的に分断しても，しばらくすると互いに網状仮足が融合し， その仮足に沿って細胞体が移動して細胞全体が融合する（月井, 1999）。

B. merdaria	細胞長，50〜100μｍ。
B. vagans	細胞長，最大500μｍ。
