Lorica often possesses numerous spines, composed of ferric hydroxide impregnated with brown manganic compound (Kudo, 1966). Species: Lorica broad ellipsoidal, 17-26 μm long, 13-22 μm wide; collar absent or short cylindrical; surface granulated (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
