Euglena Genus:
Species: Cell body broad fusiform or cylindrical, 65-90 μm long, 22-30 μm wide, posterior slightly tapered, euglenoid movement active; chloroplasts saucer-shaped, slightly lobed (or wavy ?), 12-20 in number, a pyrenoid covered with paramylon sheath located at the center; a flagellum twice longer than the cell body; nucleus spherical 15 μm in diam., stigma 5 μm (An Illustrated Guide to Freshwater Zooplankton in Japan, 2000).


Euglena (similar to E. polymorpha Dangeard, 1901), cell body 118 μm long, 16 μm wide, anterior truncated like E. deses, positerior tapered to a long caudal spine like E. acus, nucleus located at the center of the cell body, parietal chloroplasts large, disc-shaped, μm in diam., each containing a pyrenoid at the center, x 400, x 640, Green-Park, Nishi-Urawa, Saitama Pref., Japan, June 2001 by Y.
