E. cylindrica Ehrenberg: A colony composed of 32 or 64 cells in a smooth-layered gelatinous envelope 60-120 μm diam. Vegetative cells spherical, 8-10 μm diam., with 2 flagella, 1 chloroplast cup-shaped, 1 pyrenoid (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
