Elakatothrix Species: Colonies of 2, 4, 8, 16 cells, enclosed by a fusiform gelatinous sheath; cell body elongated fusiform to slightly asymmmetric fusiform, narrowed into the pointed ends, 20-35 μm long, 3-4 μm wide; chloroplasts a single, parietal, laminate, with one or two pyrenoids (Photomicrographs of the Freshwater Algae, 15: 35, 1995).
