cell wall smooth or with longitudinal lines, bands on the cell wall in some species;
chloroplast laminae ridged and radially arranged, which makes cross section star-shaped;

Cell body small, slightly curved, slightly swelled at the center, 60-160 μm long,
7-20 μm wide, L/W=6-9; both ends truncated; cell wall smooth, transparent;
semicells with 1-4 pyrenoids
