Syn.: Chlamydomonas tenebraria Skuja 1964

Species: Mature cell body spherical or ellipsoidal, 12-15 μm in diam.; young cell body ellipsoidal or cylindrical, 8-13 μm long, 4-7 μm wide; rounded papilla present; chloroplast cup-shaped, with a large concave; stigma rounded, located anterior 1/4 of the cell body; nucleus centrally located (Süßwasserflora von Mitteleuropa 9, Chlorophyta I, 1983).
