Cosmarium intermedium Genus: Unicellular; variable in shape; a constriction at the center of the cell body; mostly longer than wide; flattened; each semicell hemispherical, spherical, ellipsoidal, rectangular, pyramidal or kidney-shaped; no apical indentation (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
Species: Cell body (64-82)-79 μm long, 53-64.5 μm wide, L/W=1.20-1.25, isthmus 19-(19.6-25.8) μm wide; semicells covered with radially-arranged granules; frontal view half-circular, lateral view ovoid-circular, apical view ellipsoidal (Illustrations of the Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
