Cosmarium scopulorum Genus: Unicellular; variable in shape; a constriction at the center of the cell body; mostly longer than wide; flattened; each semicell hemispherical, spherical, ellipsoidal, rectangular, pyramidal or kidney-shaped; no apical indentation (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
Species: Cell body octagonal in shape, 23-24 μm long, 17-18 μm wide, isthmus 5.6 μm wide, L/W=1.4; semicells nearly hexagonal; cell wall smooth; apical view elliptical (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
