Next, what shape are the leaves that come out?
Three to four days after the cotyledons open, you will see a small pointed bud between two cotyledonary stalks.
This is a leaf bud (vegetative bud).
Let's watch how a leaf appears from the bud and grows.
When the vegetative bud grows, it produces stems and leaves.
The stem grows longer, and is straight, until there are 5 or 6 leaves.

By this time, the cotyledon is bigger, and its surface faces the sunlight.
The photograph on the right shows a side view of a leaf bud that came out between the cotyledons.

From the leaf bud between the cotyledons, the first leaf appeared.
This shows the condition about 1 week after the first leaf appears.
At the base of the first leaf, the second leaf begins to grow.

The first leaf becomes grown fully.
The second leaf has gotten big, too.
