Kirehahirugao Merremia dissecta (Jacq.) H. G. Hallier

Flower

Copyright 1998-2017 Yoshiaki Yoneda

Leaves deeply divided and each lobe cut further (slide 016). Corolla is white, the bottom of flower tube is dark red (slide 015). Sepals swell in maturation processes and change into hanging balloon-like fruit (slide 017). When this fruit ripens fully, the sepals open, revealing a capsule inside. The whole looks like a shuttlecock of battledore and shuttlecock (slide 018). The author named this kirehahirugao in Japanese. Greenhouse cultivated.
