Vampyrella Genus: Algophorous parasites; cytoplasm reddish; pseudopodia tapering, flexible (Illustrated Guide, 1985). Heliozoa-like; endoplasm vacuolated or granulated, with carotin granules; numerous vesicular nuclei and contractile vacuoles; multinucleate cysts, sometimes with stalk; 50-700 μm in diameter (Kudo, 1966).

V. lateritia (Fresenius, 1856) emend Leidy, 1879: Heliozoan stage, 30-40 μm long, with filose and capitate pseudopods 20-40 μm long; motile 60-100 μm long with clear periphery; nucleus obscured; cyst bilaminar; eat alagal cells; fresh water (Illustrated Guide, 1985).
