Cothurnia Genus (Ehrenberg, 1831): Lorica attached aborally by stalk; no operculum (Illustrated Guide, 1985). Similar to Vaginicola, but lorica stands on a short stalk; fresh or salt water (Kudo, 1966).
Species: Lorica about 55 μm high; fresh water (Kudo, 1966). Middle of cell body, a ring-like elevation.
