Staurastrum Species: Cell body small in size, 21-25 μm long (excluding spines), 18.3-24 μm wide (excluding spines), L/W=1.25-1.3, isthmus 6-9 μm wide; semicells elongate elliptical in lateral view, apex flat, each corner rounded, with 2-3 spiny projections, additionally 6-8 spiny projections surrounding around the corners; spines present at the base of the semicells; apical view triangle- or rectangle-shaped (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977)
