Amoeba proteus Genus: Pseudopods do not meld at bases during polypodial locomotion; pseudopods ridged; uninucleate (Illustrated Guide, 1985).
Species: Monopodal, 300-600 μm long; pseudopods, cylindroid, granular, with clear caps, longitudinal ridges; uroid, temporary, morulate; nucleus, discoid to polymorphic, often biconcave, 30-35 μm diam (Illustrated Guide, 1985). Up to 600 μm or more; one discoid nucleus, 30 μm, sometimes folded (How to know the protozoa, 1979).
