Family: Trichome (filamentous structure) with heterocysts; with equal diameter throughout hole length; no branching; heterocysts intervening or at base.
Genus: Mucous sheath, nearly invisible; heterocysts at base never become a large akinete (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
