Solitary or colonial; with firm lorica (theca) as a cup or tube; protoplast with 1 anterior flagellum encircled laterally by well-developed collar; contractile vacuoles posterior in fresh water species (Illustrated Guide, 1985). Species: lorica 31.7-50 μm long (Süßwasserflora von Mitteleuropa 1, Chrysophyceae und Haptophyceae, 1985).
