Menoidium Genus: One emergent flagellum; non-emergent flagellum ends within reservoir; colourless; osmotrophic; no eyespot; rigid; solitary; elongated; curved; strongly flattened (Illustrated Guide, 1985).
Species: Cell body banana-shaped, 64-100 μm long, 6-9 μm wide; bill-like rostrum, ventral line concave, dorsal line convex; a flagellum about a half of the body length (Angeler, Schagerl & Müller, 2002).

Angeler, D.G., Schagerl, M. & Müller, A.N., Taxonomic comments on the genus Menoidium (Euglenozoa), with a description of Menoidium inermedium sp. November, Europ. J. Protistol., 38, 393-404 (2002).

M. pellucidum Perty: Cell body sickle-shaped, 36-69 μm long, 7-10.4 μm wide, thickness 3.3 μm; bill-like rostrum, ventral line concave or straight, dorsal line convex; a flagellum about a half of the body length (Angeler, Schagerl & Müller, 2002).

M. cultellus Pringsheim (Syn. M. pellucidum var. cultellus (Pringsheim) Popova): Cell body sickle-shaped, 40-60 μm long, 8-13 μm wide, thickness 3-4 μm; bill-like rostrum, ventral line s-shaped, dorsal line convex; a flagellum about 2/3 of the body length (Angeler, Schagerl & Müller, 2002).

* M. gracile Playfair (Syn. M. pellucidum var. gracile (Playfair) Popova): Cell body banana-shaped, 64-100 μm long, 6-9 μm wide, thickness not reported; bill-like rostrum, ventral line concave, dorsal line convex; a flagellum about a half of the body length (Angeler, Schagerl & Müller, 2002).

M. falcatum Zacharias (Syn. M. tortuosum f. falcatum (Zach.) Popova): Cell body banana to sickle-shaped, 78-120 μm long, 10.4-14 μm wide, thickness not reported; bill-like rostrum, ventral line concave, dorsal line convex; a flagellum about the body length (Angeler, Schagerl & Müller, 2002).

M. gladium Christen: Cell body shield-shaped, 16-18 μm long, 8-10 μm wide, thickness not reported; rostrum absent, ventral line convex, dorsal line convex; a flagellum about the body length (Angeler, Schagerl & Müller, 2002).

M. minimum Matvienko (Syn. M. gibbum Skuja, etc.): Cell body sickle-shaped, 36-69 μm long, 7-10.4 μm wide, thickness 3.3 μm; rostrum absent, ventral line twisted, dorsal line twisted; a flagellum about 2/3 of the body length (Angeler, Schagerl & Müller, 2002).

M. obtusum Pringsheim: Cell body bean-shaped, 30-37 μm long, 10-12 μm wide, thickness 6-7 μm; rostrum very short, ventral line s-shaped, dorsal line convex; a flagellum about the body length (Angeler, Schagerl & Müller, 2002).

M. bibacillatum Pringsheim: Cell body bean-shaped, 36-40 μm long, 10-12 μm wide, thickness 5-6 μm; rostrum short, ventral line concave or s-shaped, dorsal line convex; a flagellum about 2/3 of the body length (Angeler, Schagerl & Müller, 2002).

M. intermedium Pringsheim ex Angeler: Cell body bean-shaped, 32-46 μm long, 9-14 μm wide, thickness 5-6 μm; rostrum short, ventral line convex or s-shaped, dorsal line convex; a flagellum about 2/3 of the body length (Angeler, Schagerl & Müller, 2002).
