Heteronema Genus: Like Peranema, but second flagellum free, trailing, 1/2 body length; plastic (How to know the protozoa, 1979). Both flagella emerge from canal; unequal in length and thickness; longer thicker one directed anteriorly during swimming; shorter trailing posteriorly, lying free from cell; colourless; phagotrophic; ingestion organelle composed of 2 rods; no eyespot; cell body plastic, solitary, elongated, tapering, not flattened; fresh and salt water (Illustrated Guide, 1985).
