Euglena obtusa Species: Cell body cylindrical, both ends slightly attenuated and rounded, 104-123 μm long, 17-29 μm wide; euglenoid movement active; 28-40 chloroplasts saucer-shaped, each containing a pyrenoid at the center; locomotive flagellum short not extending out of canal; nucleus spherical, 18 x 14; eyespot (stigma) 5 μm long (An Illustrated Guide to Freshwater Zooplankton in Japan, 2000).
