Spumella Genus: Similar to Ochromonas, but colourless; cells ovoid, free-swimming, or attached by a protoplasmic thread, or mutually attached to form spherical colonies; 1 contractile vacuole (Illustrated Guide, 1985).

S. hovassei (Fiatte et Joyon) Bourrelly: One flagellum 12-15 μm long, 2nd flagellum 2.5-3 μm long, emerging from small depression in truncate anterior end; chloroplasts and eyespots absent; cell free-swimming, ovoid, 5-7 μm diam., posterior drawn out into to thin tail (Illustrated Guide, 1985).
