Genus: Cell body spherical, with many small disc-shaped chloroplasts (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).

Species: Cell body 25-50 μm wide, chloroplasts rounded, without pyrenoids (Süßwasserflora von Mitteleuropa 3, Xanthophyceae 1, 1978). Cell body 6-18 μm in diam. (up to 30 μm); soil algae (Illustrations of The Japanese Fresh-water Algae, 1977).
